Who Built FSE and Why
A brief origin story — one creator, one company, one October.
Creator
FlowState Engineering was created by Scott Michael Wilson in October 2025. The first manifesto was drafted in a single sitting — ten tenets, one creed, and a conviction that AI-assisted development had become powerful enough to be dangerous without structure.
Origin
FSE is the engineering methodology used across eight production solutions in active development — across healthcare compliance, legal practice management, financial trading, elder care, education, corporate operations, chiropractic, and geotechnical engineering. The methodology is not a product — it is the operating system these projects run on. This site exists so the methodology can be read and understood without reverse-engineering it from the codebases that use it.
Origin
FSE was born from a specific recognition: AI-assisted development needed constraints, not freedom. Given unbounded latitude, the agent drifts, invents architecture mid-task, and ships subtle inconsistencies that compound across a solution. Given a short list of explicit standing orders, a clear session protocol, and a self-healing build loop, the same agent becomes the most consistent engineer on the team.
The first manifesto captured the vision in October 2025. The words were philosophical because the practice didn't exist yet. Eight production solutions later, every tenet has a concrete engineering practice underneath it — the vision has become the machinery.
The short version: FSE is what you get when you stop trying to make the agent more creative and start making the context more precise. The agent was never the bottleneck. The operating context was.
